What’s Quantum Discipleship?

Great question!  Quantum discipleship is a model of discipleship that I’ve got rattling around in my head.  Many of the current ideas and models of discipleship have taken the dynamics of the Christian life and reduced them to a set of simplistic, easily measurable “objectives” and “checklists.”  As a result, many individual Christians and churches have adopted a skewed and unbiblical concept of spiritual formation, growth and maturity.  ”Quantum Discipleship” is the idea that following Christ cannot be accurately or easily measured.

The name “quantum” comes from physics.  The concept is that at the most basic level of our universe, things do not act, react, or behave in predictable ways.  Hence, “Quantum Discipleship” takes into account that idea that following Jesus isn’t linear, predictable or uniform for every person.

Over the life of this blog, I’ll drop in posts that further describe this model of discipleship.  Again, it is a developing concept, so it isn’t the end all/be all in discipleship.  It’s just one way of looking at what it means to be a Christain and I’d love to hear what you think about it.

Well, I’ll be the first to say it – the concept makes a lot of sense and definitely appeals to everyone (like me) who feels guilty for not doing the 437 things we’re supposed to do in the Christian life. Maybe a relationship with Jesus is less about the “do” and more about the “who”–a relationship rather than a rule.

I think this will be a great site and I’m looking forward to more content.

How long has this been going? I love the concept and am definitely going to keep reading up on this. How many contributors do you have?
